Immanuel Lutheran School was organized in 1871, the same year in which
Immanuel Lutheran Church was established. From the very beginning, the church fathers were interested in and concerned about
Christian training of their children and, therefore, loyally sponsored and supported the school from its humble beginning.
The first building of frame and brick was a two-story structure. The second floor was used for divine services, while the
lower level provided space for a Christian Day School. Immanuel School was rebuilt in 1918 following a fire, and part
of that structure remains today. A gymnasium and additional classrooms were added to the front of the building in 1930. Since
that time, numerous exterior and interior improvements, including soundproofing and air conditioning have taken place.
That quality education was formally recognized in 1983 when Immanuel became a fully accredited school within the Northern
Illinois District (NID). In 1990 Immanuel again received full accreditation from the NID.
